1sec on TV

movies, pinoys in korea

Literally 1 second.

I got a glimpse of Firstborn on TV in the Jessica Soho GMA show, May 5, 2012 episode.

This picture was taken during Maui Taylor’s first shooting day in South Korea for the movie “The Taste of Money” which is officially in competition in the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. I have the same stills taken on the same spot with the same actors… but I believe my own take of the same picture was not published (not even in my private FB account). I actually checked my FB pictures and those published there were from different angles.

Exclusive Preview of “The Taste of Money”

movies, pinoys in korea

“The Taste of Money” had its preview last night which was exclusively attended and watched by the movie’s production staff and actors. Fellow mommy, Zel Kim, was able to attend on behalf of her daughter who plays my Firstborn’s “nuna” in the movie. She shared her movie ticket picture and I could only look at it with envy:

It sure was an exprience I missed.

When I read the script, I knew that the highlight for the kids’ (Firstborn and his Nuna) appearance was going to be at the end, before the credits. And it was. It was the scene shot in Cebu which took a grueling 8-10 hours. I am excited to watch it for myself:-). I hope hubby will be able to go back to Seoul from his over-extended business trip in time for the VIP premiere on May 15. A movie’s VIP Premiere is by invitation only and I heard this will be attended by Maui Taylor.

Regular showing will be on May 17. So, Filipinos in South Korea, save the date. Have your group movie date on this day and support the movie which is also in competition in Cannes this year.

The Taste of Money: An Official Entry in the 2012 Cannes Film Festival

movies

The line-up of movies for the 2012 Cannes Film Festival had been announced. South Korea’s The Taste of Money directed by Im Sang Soo is officially in competition.

visually powerful teaser

Casts include Kim Kang-woo, Kim Hyo-jin, Baek Yoon-sik and Yoon Yeo-joong. Filipina actress Maui Taylor portrays the important role of Eva, the Filipina nanny hired by the powerful chaebol family.

Filipinos in South Korea would be excited to see their faces in the big screen in South Korea in May. Many Filipinos were hired as extras in some scenes. Oh, some Cebuanos might catch a glimpse of their faces, too as the last scenes were filmed in Cebu.

Director Im Sang-soo’s 2010 film “The Housemaid” was screened in the 2010 Cinemanila International Film Festival where he bagged the Best Director Award and Ms. Yeon Yeo-joong got the Best Actress award. This new film is considered as the sequel to “The Housemaid”. Will it be also invited to this year’s Cinemanila International Film Festival? Let’s keep our fingers crossed:-).

And uhmmmm… Firstborn has a minor role in the movie. That’s how he got to have his first business trip at the age of 5.

Maui Taylor in a Korean Film “The Taste of Money”

movies, pinoys in korea

Maui Taylor is scheduled to arrive today here in Seoul to start shooting for a Korean film “The Taste of Money” under the direction of Mr. Im Sang-soo.

She will be playing the role of a Filipina, hired as a nanny by a powerful Korean family. She is a smart woman with a graduate degree but due to family circumstances she worked abroad to support her children back in the Philippines. Sounds like a familiar plot about the lives of our fellow Pinoys, right? But Maui Taylor’s character will be more complex than that.

This is something to look forward to, although as of the moment the film is targeted for film festivals. The director, Mr. Im Sang-soo, won as Best Director for the movie “The Housemaid” in the International Competition Category at the 12th Cinemanila International Film Festival last year. The film was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival last year. The production team that did “The Housemaid” are working together again for the current film “The Taste of Money” aiming for the same level of success.
