Renewal of Alien Registration Card: Fingerprinting Requirement

March is the time of the year when our family renews our Alien Registration Card (ARC) in the Mokdong Immigration Center. It had always been my husband who goes to the Immigration Center with all our passports and application forms ready to hand in.

Surprise! This year, I  needed to personally go to the Immigration Center, too. Since January 2012, fingerprinting had been part of the requirement for the renewal of the ARC. This we learned after hubby left the Immigration Center with only  his and the two kids’ ARCs. ARC holders who are 17 years old and above are now required to appear so they could be fingerprinted. I guess, this is aligned with the fingerprinting method in the Incheon International Airport Immigration upon arrival in Korea.

Restaurant Name in a Slice of Scrambled Egg

Took this picture when I had lunch with my “bosses” three weeks ago:

Look at the printed Hangeul characters in the scrambled egg slice. That’s the name of the Korean restaurant we had lunch in. Interesting!

Jasmine Lee’s Education

I left Korea a few days ago with a positive feeling that Philippine-born Jasmine Lee will become the first foreign-born Congresswoman comes second week of April, after South Korea’s election. She is South Korea’s Ruling Party’s number 15 candidate representing Multiculturalism and Single Parent sectors.

But just today, Jasmine Lee’s education is a hot subject in South Korean’s internet environ. To better explain it, here’s Betchay’s (of Buhay sa Korea) post:

Currently, Jasmine Lee is trending as the hottest topic on Korea’s cyberspace. The bad thing is, people are talking about an alleged “education forgery” scandal. They said that in one TV show on KBS2, she (or the caption) claimed that she went to medical school.

Jasmine Lee could’ve been misquoted, Jas’ candidate profile, trending on Daum

It could’ve been the difference in our educational system that was the problem. In the Philippines, one has to attend pre-Medical school first before the Medical proper for a total of eight (8) years education. It is quite different here in Korea. As far as I know, they didn’t have a pre-Med here until a few years ago. They also didn’t have pre-Law courses here until a few years ago.

The press could’ve misunderstood Jasmine when she said that she was in pre-Med. They could’ve translated it to mean Medical school. There is no intention of defrauding the public when JASMINE LEE 이자스민 HONESTLY listed on her profile that she went to Ateneo De Davao and studied BS Biology (considered a pre-Med course) for three school years.

The caption on the photo when she guested on the KBS2 show could also have been a mistake, not by her own doing. I didn’t watch the show so I couldn’t really comment. However, this reminded me of Lee Da Hae who was hated by a lot of Filipinos when she spoke English with an “Asian” accent. Too bad for her that the caption showed the Philippine flag and the name of the country in Korean. Remember that?

Since Jasmine attended Ateneo de Davao, here is a fact about their pre-Med course:

Q: What is the pre-med course in Ateneo? A: The BS Biology program is the course generally taken by Ateneo students in preparation for medical school. On the whole, 100% of the graduates of BS Bio have been admitted to Davao Medical School and top medical schools of the country.

I hope her party will release a statement soon to clear this up.

Among her Filipino friends, Jasmine has always been honest and vocal about her education. Let this be a time for Filipinos in South Korea to help spread the correct information above and explain the difference in the education system between our country and theirs.

Cheers!

Moody Mary Accessories

I finally got my 2 accessories from Moody Mary!

These came all the way from Singapore where Jil, the brains and the designer behind Moody Mary, resides.

I was impressed with her collection when I saw a good friend, Ann, wearing two of her accessories. I browsed through her site and found her pieces very interesting. There’s also the assurance that I don’t bump into someone wearing identical accessories with mine. So ordered I did and got the items right in time before I leave for my Philippine vacation:-).

I was pleasantly surprised with the notecards attached to Jil’s accessories. She personally writes her “thank you” and in the other accessory her note offers a tip on how to take care of the item. Isn’t that thoughtful?

Aside from her necklaces, she also has earrings and… clothes! Now, hop on to her site to view more of her Moody Mary collection.

Niel Tupas, Jr.: Epitome of a Shameless Politician

without integrity... without shame

He has repeatedly received flak for  his incompetence.

But his face remains smiling and happy. Who would not be, when under this holy administration, a number of his relatives had been appointed to government positions? That is not even talking about the perks they are receiving.

He vows to search and show the people the truth (and what about the truth behind the grafty and corruption charges against your father?)… and he presented fake documents, planted evidences, presented a powerpoint presentation of charges against the Chief Justice, prosecuted without basis and gathered evidences after the charge had been filed. In all of these actions he had been going about without shame. He is being tolerated not because he is brilliant. Far from that… judging from his performance in the impeachment trial. He is being tolerated because he is the epitome of a politician who would do anything and everything to be in continuous good graces with the “Holy One”.

He is a shameless politician who has thrown away integrity.

No thanks, Yellows!

Shame on you, Eulalio Diaz III!

I can’t stop posting my political views because I am extremely flabbergasted with the way the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona had been railroaded in Congress.

To even give our thoughts regarding the guilt or innocence of the Chief Justice is already an act of injustice to the man. One can only offer his views regarding another’s guilt or innocence when there are evidences available to even start the charges against that person. It is not so with the Chief Justice. Evidences were non-existent on the day he was impeached and it was planted by the LRA Administrator and the prosecution team weeks after the charge was submitted.

He was vilified in public even before charges had been forwarded… just because the great, self-righteous president of the Philippines who claims for himself and his family holiness absent in others, ordered that he must be out of his way.

"Do not bite the hands that feed you" - and so he will continue on licking Pnoy's ass

The Chief Justice had been pronounced guilty by the yellow mob and the yellow media upon the prosecutors’ presentation – in the media, of course – that he has 45 properties under his name. Those who have followed the impeachment trial would know by now that the list was submitted by LRA Administrator Atty. Eulalio Diaz III – a grade school batch mate of the “holy” president who has served him in his Senate office and in his presidential campaign. Till the end, he refused to acknowledge the grave mistake he had done – but, of course! You don’t bite the hands that feed you, eh?

The list consisted of cancelled titles and even those owned by persons who are in no way related to the Chief Justice or to any member of his family. Will somebody have the courage – there is a legal requirement for one to be a party in a case to qualify him to file a case – to charge this despicable man with “gross negligence in the performance of his duties?” Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago had recited in the proceedings his violations and even the other senators have united in their perplexity against such negligence. His was abuse of power and position. What a shame to his family! But… money works… even integrity can be bought.

Hail Yellows! This is what you have campaigned for… a vindictive President who does not look forward to the future but only steadies himself on looking back at the past for his promised revenge.

No thanks, Yellows!

Noynoy Aquino Noynoying on a Working Day with Grace Lee

Two tweets from two celebrities today (March 22, 2012):

from Edu Manzano:

Pnoy & Grace Lee spotted at Promenade Greenhills today. In the middle of the day. To be fair, it IS a nice day of a leisurely stroll.

from Karen Davila:

Hmm… PNOY and Grace Lee strolling in Greenhills on a Thursday. Must be a light day…

Both tweets were immediately answered that the President was presiding over a NEDA meeting. One was even answered by Lacierda himself… just goes to show top cabinet officials are busy with their topmost concerns namely: NOYNOYING and damage control for the noynoying President.

And to top it all, Tony Velasquez immediately refuted the veracity of the tweets in ANC… Wow! That’s government machinery and Philippine media in the works! And just how prompt are they in immediately rescuing the noynoying President?

Consider the lack of news in mainstream media regarding the deliberate efforts of the prosecutors to mislead the public regarding CJ Corona’s properties.

Fun! Fun! Fun!

No thanks, Yellows!
