So, off we went to the nearest clubhouse in the city.
Little Dynamo and cousin had so much fun. He showed his swimming skill (he doesn’t know how to swim *wink*) to Lola and confidently believed that he was teaching his lola and cousin to swim.
I believe in instilling inner confidence. This will bring them a long, long way and allow them to see the world as their playground… they go about conquering one feat after another - stress-free.
Little Dynamo came down with a bad case of diarrhea. He’s better now, thank goodness!
He was not taking his medicines well. Giving him medicine was always a struggle. I had to cuddle him, kiss him, threaten him… name it! Take this episode:
Me:If you don’t drink your medicine, I have to bring you to the hospital. I will not sleep there with you. Only Lola will be with you. I need to take care of baby brother here in the house.
Little Dynamo: (just shaking his head, crying)
Me:The doctors will put IV on you. I can’t stop them. I can’t protect you there. They will force the medicine on you.
Little Dynamo:Where’s Lola?
Me:In her room.
He went to his Lola’s room, crying.
Little Dynamo:Lola, if I go to the hospital, will you take care of me?
Lola:Of course, apo. Why?
Little Dynamo:Mommy will not take care of me. She will take care of baby brother here in the house. What about Lolo? He will take care of me also?
Lola:Yes, of course, apo.
And the Little Dynamo went out of his Lola’s room with a firmer resolution not to take his medicine.
Bonding moments were often done over a cup of coffee in any Starbucks branch… hilarious friends would narrate stories repeated oftentimes (and we didn’t mind - we still roared with laughter).
I didn’t mind staying up late and being away from my Little Dynamo until 1:30am last Monday (11-16). I missed my friends… hilarious and outrageous and loud friends! That being said, I missed Smart! Not the work… but the bonuses. LOL. Imagine enjoying bonuses of up to 20, 21 and 22 months when other companies were hardly able to give out 13th month bonuses to their employees… those days!!!
My life may have brought me to a different kind of life in a different country and very soon… I am going to have my Baby Dynamo out… but some things remain the same. Our night in Metrowalk last Monday proved just that. Friends and I had sinigang and various seafoods during dinner in Marina. Unmindful of other diners, the stories started rolling in and we began our night full of laughter. As our wont, our next stop was Starbucks. One friend brought out her Starbucks card for stamping. Oh, those Starbucks planners! One of those things that don’t change.
There is a Starbucks branch conveniently located at the back of Smart Tower in Ayala. We frequented that branch along Valero corner Rufino Street. Upon seeing her taking the opportunity to have her card stamped courtesy of our purchases, I began to think out loud “i’m glad some things just don’t change”.
My Little Dynamo had his first taste of a real school setting today in the pre-school of the university where his Lolo (grandfather) is the university president.
He is the youngest and the smallest… as expected. He isn’t even a regular student… he is just there to have a feel of a school environment. He can go to school when he wants to… if he wants to. He can even play in the President’s office anytime he wants to… can Lolo say no?
He may have been the youngest and the smallest but he went to school in complete uniform… new black shoes, white socks, a school uniform set of khaki shorts and white polo. He was up to it. He has visited the school grounds several times… the visits prepped him up to go to school with anticipation.
He was introduced by his teacher as their new classmate and the kids welcomed him as one of them… they initially gauged one another but they immediately warmed up to each other despite the language barrier.
At least for the kids, it was only the language barrier that seemed to have provided a wall during their introduction. For the adults, he is not just the “ang Engliserong bata“, word was already out that he is the “apo ng Presidente”.
Anyway, Little Dynamo is set to enjoy his school life here in the Philippines. Mommy will make sure of that, with perks or none.
Who would dare use a golf car going around the village?
We did!
Little Dynamo had the privilege of being his Lolo’s first passenger for the golf car he purchased for the university where he serves as the University President. He will be using this golf car when he goes around the university inspecting the grounds and observing and mingling with the students. But this was first delivered to the house five days ago so we got to ride it first.
The best thing about this golf car is, it’s battery operated! No gas needed. Just charge it and off you go…
We were invited to a 7th birthday party last night.
A 7th birthday celebration is usually a big family affair here in the Philippines. For some, it is a very well-planned, well-organized affair. For a few, it is a grand celebration. But how grand is grand turns out to be relative. Let me share with you the grandest 7th birthday celebration we have attended so far:
We came into the venue greeted by party organizers who checked our names in the guest list, handed our party money and lobby snack stubs and guided us through registration to getting the party souvenirs and pointed to us several kiosks for face painting, nail art, star wars TV station and the Star Wars designed lobby for photo opportunity.
(Intentionally blurred pic at 33 weeks with a blurrier pic of my Little Dynamo)
There were different party souvenirs for adults and for kids. Kids were given personalized thermal bags with several laser toys inside:
Several food carts were stationed for the guests’ afternoon snacks. These are some of them:
The venue was filled with guests. The stage was spectacular. Food was flowing. Entertainment was anything but ordinary. Child celebrities from the two biggest networks graced the affair.
My Little Dynamo enjoyed the affair. He joined one of the games and didn’t want to leave the stage. He was dancing and enjoying his own laser sword while the birthday celebrant performed for his guests.
Exercise was not forgotten but was not a priority since my Little Dynamo underwent his laparoscopic surgery to correct his VUR. Travel followed after… from Seoul to HK Disneyland to Manila to Iloilo to Guimaras, back to Manila and now we’re settled here in Cabanatuan… awaiting the arrival of the Baby Dynamo.
I have had time to prepare for my own “ME” time. My needs are simple:-). Equipped with an exercise mat and a pair of dumb bells, my “ME” time is fulfilled first thing in the morning. Even before my son wakes up, I sweat my big-bellied self inside our room. It’s anything goes after that.
Today, at 33 weeks I am heavy at 58.6kg. Not bad… When I learned I was 6 weeks pregnant, I started at 51.8kg
Little Dynamo is settling magnificently. He has his own corner for relaxation. His definition of relaxation is sitting down in his own small blue chair, writing or drawing in his own small blue table and making up his own stories. His energy is consumed when he goes out to his Lola’s garden and run around. When cousins visit, he gets even more sweaty and stinky. But no matter, he is a happy boy! What more could a mom ask for?
I am Wendy. Seoul is my home-base... for now... this is where we build our life as an expat family. I am a wife - the wind beneath my husband's wings... A mother - the protective arm around our two Dynamos, making everyday a fresh and exciting day.
When I am not being a wife and a mother, I enjoy reading and writing. I am the woman comfortably nestled in "My Rocking Cradle". Welcome!
