The Excitement of Masquerade-themed Events

I once attended a masquerade-themed Christmas party. I didn’t have the chance to choose my own mask as the organizers took it upon themselves to provide us with our masks. It was good enough but wait till you see these venetian masquerade masks.  These handmade masks are not just masks. I would love to hang them on my walls and include them in my collection of well-made stuffs. I see similar well-made masks during the annual Dinagyang festival in Iloilo where foreigners buy these masks from the performers after the event to serve as their authentic souvenir when they go back to their own home country.

While the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival has its own charms, I find the Mardi Gras more colorful and lively and that’s where the fun begins. In fact, the fun must be starting now as the Mardi Gras season will be on full swing first week of March. There will be ostentatious display of full face masks and the streets will be full of revelry. I remember joining the street party back in Iloilo after the parade and performance of participating tribes honoring the Sto. Nino. I wonder how much fun there is in the Mardi Gras.
